Midori Takamine
Just looking at Valen's passionate feelings makes Midori tired. Even if Midori's first impression of Valen was not the best, the two of them seem to get along alright. Both are enthusiastic about mascot characters, and as a way to make Midori smile, Valen draws, albeit not the most top-quality, doodles of mascots to give to Midori.
Michi Tsuji
Michi and Valen have been friends since elementary school. Their relationship was so close, to the point of Valen referring to her as his "older sibling". Michi's pure genius and wide range of hobbies fascinated Valen, which made him latched onto her. He was mesmerized by the idea of how a person could be so perfect. Valen viewed Michi as a god, which Michi outright denied. She often critiqued Valen for his "poor choice of words" and always repeated that Valen shouldn't raise her in such high regards because in the end, he will be dissappointed.
After the enrollement into Yumenosaki, Michi created the unit "Eternal Sleep" with Valen as it's second member. It garnered a, quite literal, cult following, making Valen's attachment only grow stronger. Michi went on to encourage this, more of a joke, however Valen took it seriously. He continued to praise Michi, putting her on a pedastal. It made it harder for Michi to interact with Valen as a person, since Valen only saw her as more of an utopian concept, an idea with no flaws and followed her like a member of a religious group to a divine being.
As it was getting harder to properly speak with Valen, Michi made the not-so great descision to retort back with insulting or critical comments, just to give Valen some sort of reality check, which ultimately made him feel belittled and more dependent on Michi. Everytime she messed up, Valen would also throw the same degrading words, adding fuel into the fire. The whole relationship went downhill from here.
suicide mentions ahead
With the pressure during the War Era and familly issues combined, Michi couldn't take it anymore and killed herself. Of course, Valen wasn't aware of the reasoning behind the suicide. Michi was a master of disguise and never outright spoke about his problems at home to anyone, except Rei. That day, Valen was supposed to meet her, however after sneaking into her room, he discovered Michi, just not how she use to be. Valen constantly blamed himself for her death, so he locked himself inside of his room, afraid that his hands would get bloody once again.
Even after a few years, Valen finds it difficult to come to terms with this fact and frames himself as the culprit of Michi's passing.
